PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill validator in which operation concerned with the assembling and wiring of a light emitting element and a light receiving element composing an insertion detection sensor and light emitting elements and light receiving elements composing an authenticity detection sensor can be performed in a simple way and work such as the inspection and cleaning of each of the sensors can be easily performed. SOLUTION: The light emitting element 54a and the light receiving element 55a of the insertion detection sensor and the light emitting elements 53a, 53b and the light receiving elements 54b, 55b of the authenticity detection sensor are collectively arranged on a rear side chute 50 located on the rear side of a bill conveying unit 50. Emitting light from the light emitting element 54a of the insertion detection sensor is made incident on the light receiving element 55a of the insertion detection sensor through a first light transmission element 34 of a front side chute 30 located on the front side of the bill conveying unit 50 and a second light transmission element 44 of a bill conveying unit 40, and emitting light from the light emitting elements 53a, 53b of the authenticity detection sensor are made incident on the light receiving elements 54b, 55b of the authenticity detection sensor through a third light transmission element 45 of the bill conveying unit 40.
