[Also in Division F1] A gas compressor 'comprises a cylinder 10, a piston 13, and a head 12, with an annular spring steel valve disc 29 clamped at a central annular portion between the head and the cylinder to form an inlet valve 31, and an outlet valve 32. Gas is drawn into the cylinder via a groove 16 and ports 15 to a working chamber 14, the valve 15 being deflected by the flow on to a conical seat 24, and is expelled from the chamber 14 via grooves 28, chamber 21, and an outlet 22, the valve 32 being deflected on to a seat 23. In Fig. 5 (not shown), pressure fluid is supplied to a bellows (42), via an inlet (44) to move the inlet valve 31 off its seat and unload the compressor. The seats are formed on a separate disc member (40) that has cooling passages (39), (41) therein. In Fig. 6 (not shown), the gas is compressed by a reciprocating diaphragm (46), and the inlet valve (51) is formed on the outer annular portion of the disc (29). The compressor in Fig. 7 (not shown), has opposed pistons (13), and the valve discs (29) are carried by a disc (61). In Fig. 8 (not shown), the valve disc is prestressed to a conical shape between its seats, and in Fig. 9 (not shown), the seats are made convex in section.</p> |
