An endless magnetic tape cartridge includes a hub 50 of inverted truncated conical shape 66 and having an upwardly inclined flange 55 supporting a plate 56 carrying a tape coil 18. As tape tension increases during use, a force F is generated tending to rock the plate about the upper edge of flange 55 thereby transferring the coil weight from ridges 62 to ridge N1 and reducing friction torque. The hub 50 may be rotatable relative to the flange which is itself rotatable on a spindle extending from the cartridge base. This is said to reduce wear. A slack loop formed in the tape due to vibration is guided above the tape coil so as to enter a chamber defined between a second plate 64 atop the coil, and walls (48, 49, Fig. 3, not shown) depending from the cartridge cover. |
