PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphate based glass composition having practically sufficient water resistance and capable of containing highly concentrated Ag. SOLUTION: The composition for use in optical glass, contains 0-30 mol% Ag<SB>2</SB>O, 0-30 mol% Li<SB>2</SB>O, 0-30 mol% Na<SB>2</SB>O, 0-30 mol% K<SB>2</SB>O, 0-30 mol% Cs<SB>2</SB>O (wherein Ag<SB>2</SB>O+Li<SB>2</SB>O+Na<SB>2</SB>O+K<SB>2</SB>O+Cs<SB>2</SB>O=10-30 mol%), 10-25 mol% ZnO, 12-30 mol% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 35-45 mol% P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, 1-5 mol% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-5 mol% Ga<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-5 mol% In<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-5 mol% Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-3 mol% ZrO<SB>2</SB>and 0-5 mol% lanthanoid oxide (wherein Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+Ga<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+In<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+ZrO<SB>2</SB>+lanthanid oxide=1-10 mol%).
