PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an elevator system capable of preventing occurrence of an abnormal motion due to abnormal drop of traction capacity. SOLUTION: A control device 11 comprises a control command section 11a for sending a driving command to a hoist 1, and a traction capacity abnormality detecting section 11b for receiving a pulse signal from respective encoder 4, 5. The traction capacity abnormality detecting section 11b calculates the difference between sheave speed and lifting speed of a car 7 as rope slip speed. Further, when the calculated rope slip speed exceeds a predetermined speed, the traction capacity abnormality detecting section 11b judges that abnormal drop of the traction capacity has occurred and informs the control command section 11a about occurrence of the abnormal drop of the traction capacity.
