CHARACTER INPUT DEVICE, PORTABLE TERMINAL AND CHARACTER INPUT PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device capable of automatically switching ON/OFF of a following word/phrase prediction function according to user's operation history and capable of performing the switching according to a user's purpose as much as possible.

SOLUTION: A following word/phrase prediction part 105 predicts a word/phrase inputted next when receiving the input of a word/phrase by a character input part 110 and displays the predicted word/phrase on a display part 130 as a following word/phrase candidate. The following word/phrase estimation part 105 stores utilization history information 123 indicating whether the following word/phrase candidate of the word/phrase whose input is received is used for the user or not and determines whether the following word/phrase candidate is to be displayed on the display part or not on the basis of the utilization history information of the word/phrase at a point of time when the input of the word/phrase is received. Even when the display of the following word/phrase candidate is suppressed, the following word/phrase candidate is displayed according to a user's instruction.
