PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of a conventional method for manufacturing multilayer carbon nanotubes in which multilayer carbon nanotubes obtained by a vapor phase growth method are subjected to a high temperature heating process over the generation temperature of carbon nanotubes, so as to obtain multilayer carbon nanotubes in a high crystallization degree. SOLUTION: In the process of manufacturing multilayer carbon nanotubes by a catalytic vapor phase growth method in which a carbon source gas is made to flow in a heated atmosphere held at a predetermined temperature in the presence of a catalyst and multilayer carbon nanotubes are grown from the surface of the catalyst, an iron-containing garnet powder is used for the catalyst.
