PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately perform discrimination on a movement means while suitably reducing electric power consumption. SOLUTION: This portable navigation device 100 is equipped with a map information database 10a for storing a plurality of pieces of map information dedicated to respective movement means of a plurality of kinds, an acceleration sensor 41 for detecting vertical vibration substantially orthogonal to a moving direction, and a CPU 8 for doing a process in which any one movement means is singled out from among the movement means of the plurality of kinds based on the detection result of vibration to select map information dedicated to the singled-out one movement means from the information database for causing the selected map information to be displayed on a display part 2.
