A VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM AND A METHOD FOR JUDGING ABNORMAL ACTUATION IN THE VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM

The main operating section (37a) in a toe angle alteration control ECU (3 7) of a vehicle control system receives target toe angles .alpha.TL and .alp ha.TR from a steering control ECU (130) and controls a motor (31L) for alter ing the toe angle of a rear left wheel and a motor (31R) for altering the to e angle of a rear right wheel independently. Stroke sensors (38L, 38R) detec t actual toe angles .alpha.L and .alpha.R and inputs them to the operational state judging section (85) in a sub-operating section (37c). Based on a pre stored judgment table (85a), the operational state judging section (85) calc ulates an allowable operation range which is a combination of the toe angles .alpha.L and .alpha.R of the rear left and right wheels depending on the ve hicle speed VS, and judges whether the operational state of the motors (31L, 31R) is suitable for the turning state of the vehicle or not based on the f act whether the actual toe angles .alpha.L and .alpha.R fall within the allo wable operation range or not.
