PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device surely preventing a damage of a detection means. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with: a detection means 21 detecting an object S property by being moved in an approaching/separating direction to/from the object S conveyed by a conveyance means 3, and approaching the object S according to an object S length along the moving direction measured by a measuring means 6; a detection means 7 approaching the object S together with the detection means 21 on the furthermore upstream side than the detection means 21 to the conveyance direction of the object S by the conveyance means 3, and detecting the object S in contact with the object S on a regulation position of the object S in the moving direction; and an avoidance means 5 for avoiding contact between the object S and the detection means 21 when the detection means 7 detects the object S.
