A method for detecting faults at a weld seam (4) during a laser-welding process, in particular for detecting fusion defects and/or penetration welding defects at the lap seam of zinc-coated metal sheets, comprising the following steps: two-dimensional, positionally resolved detection of radiation emitted by a solidified melt (3) adjoining a liquid melting bath (1), determination of at least one characteristic value for the heat dissipation in the solidified melt (3) by evaluating the radiation detected along at least one profile section (10, 11) of the solidified melt (3), and detection of a fault at the weld seam (4) by comparing the at least one characteristic value with at least one reference value.
