PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a duplex apparatus for avoiding a state inconsistency between an operating device and a standby device, and providing high reliability so as not to affect information transfer. SOLUTION: The duplex apparatus 2 is used in a communication device 100 which retains information transferred from a higher-level device 1 and transfers the retained information to a lower-level device 3. The duplex apparatus has an operating device 4 for transferring information from the higher-level device 1 to the lower-level device 3, and a standby device 5 which, if the operating device 4 is in a standby state or a failed state, switches to an operating state for transferring information from the higher-level device 1 to the lower-level device 3. The operating device 4 and the standby device 5 each report its own operating/standby state to the other, and determine its own operating/standby state according to its own operating state and the operating/standby state of the other.
