PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit for a vehicle for enhancing reliability in rewriting a program in nonvolatile memory, and increasing the flexibility of process settings in a manufacturing line and a maintenance line. SOLUTION: A control unit for vehicle provided with a nonvolatile memory that can write and erase a program or data in a block unit, includes a rewrite control means that, when instructed to perform rewriting from an external device, executes a processing to rewrite an update program and data sent from the external device for each block, and controls to write the update program to be written into not the blocks where a program to be updated is stored, but arbitrary vacant blocks.
