PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for compensating a temperature fall at the time of operation shutdown without a waste of a large amount of a blow or the like in high temperature sterilization filling. SOLUTION: The liquid filling apparatus for use in filling a container with a liquid, which is conveyed to a filler 7 from a liquid reservoir tank 2 includes means for making the liquid in the filler tank 7 flow back to the liquid reservoir tank 2 after filling stop. In this case, the liquid in the filler tank 7 flows back to the liquid reservoir tank 2 through at least a part of the liquid sending path from the liquid reservoir tank 2 to the filler tank 7.
