<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector and an assembling method thereof, capable of achieving a connecting work to an optical fiber at a site at a lower cost. <P>SOLUTION: A nearly sheet-like protecting member 17 that transmits light with a prescribed refractive index is bonded to the leading end face of a ferrule 3 having a fiber insertion hole 15 formed therethrough, while covering the fiber insertion hole 15.
