PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescence element wherein an intermediate layer can be formed in a simple structure between light emitting layers and high luminance light emission is made possible. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescence element having the plurality of light emitting layers stacked between an anode 1 and a cathode 2 via the intermediate layer 3, by forming the intermediate layer 3 so as to include a bipolar conductive metal oxide layer and a layer comprising a metal or a metal oxide, the electric connection state of the intermediate layer and a layer (organic layer) with a light emitting function in contact with the intermediate layer is improved, or charge separation inside the intermediate layer is efficiently performed. A drive voltage is reduced while layers disposed between the light emitting layers are few as a whole, and the organic electroluminescence element capable of indicating stable characteristics is obtained.
