PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating a dispersed state of magnetic powder having satisfactory correlation with electromagnetic transducing characteristics. SOLUTION: A first half band width W1 of a first periodic spectrum obtained by scanning a standard sample in which a periodic signal is recorded with a standard probe and a ratio S<SB>1</SB>/N<SB>1</SB>of a first power spectrum obtained by Fourier transforming the first periodic spectrum are obtained, a reference measurement visual field range is obtained where a second half band width W<SB>2</SB>of a second periodic spectrum obtained by scanning the standard sample with a measurement probe is equivalent to the half band width W<SB>1</SB>, a reference lift height of the measurement probe is obtained where a ratio S<SB>2</SB>/N<SB>2</SB>of a second power spectrum obtained by Fourier transforming the second periodic spectrum is equivalent to the ratio S<SB>1</SB>/N<SB>1</SB>, and a magnetic cluster size of an image of a magnetic force microscope is evaluated by setting so that a scanning range for scanning a magnetic layer with the measurement probe is the reference measurement visual field range and a lift height of the measurement probe is the reference lift height.
