The method involves assigning a call number to an internet identifier, which is gathered from two terminals to assemble a communication connection. The allocation is stored between the internet identifier and the call number in an entry of an address book of latter terminal. The presence information is received in a server connected with an internet protocol network (12). The presence information containing document is generated and transmitted by the server to former terminal. An independent claim is also included for a system for providing presence information over the availability status of terminal of a subscriber connected with an internet protocol network.
