An image forming apparatus (1) with interchangeable drum, in particular in the field of the printing of plates suitable to be used in lithography processes, allows the use of different drums in the same apparatus with an easy replacement operation, and comprises a cylindrical drum (2), apt to receive photosensitive plates on the outer surface thereof, having means for fixing (106) said photosensitive plates on said outer surface; a frame member (11), rotatably supporting said cylindrical drum (2) and said means for fixing (106), defining a resting flat bottom surface; a supporting cradle structure (113) comprising a resting plane delimited by raised boundaries to define a recess open at its upper side, matching said resting flat bottom surface of the frame member and apt to receive said frame member to position the cylindrical drum (2) and the respective fixing means (106) with respect to a predetermined feeding plane of the photosensitive plates, said frame member (11) and said supporting cradle structure (113) being structurally independent to each other.
