A method for obtaining a reduced image and an image apparatus using the same are provided to obtain the reduced image from image data being received, thereby easily obtaining a reduced image with regard to an image stored in another apparatus. Image data is with regard to a specific image from an external apparatus. The image data is received(S225). It is determined whether reduced image data with regard to the reduced image of the specific image included in the image data is completely received while receiving the image data. Receiving the image data is stopped if it is determined that the reduced image data is completely received(S245).
