A backlight unit is provided to display 3D image without changing the structure of image display by a sequential driving by processing an image as right image and left image. In a backlight unit(19), a light guide plate(13) equipped with a plurality of stripe segments(14) having a light passing face corresponding to a plurality of segments. A first light source has at least three monochromatic light sources which displays a first color by combining a homogeneous light having six different wavelength bands. An optical source section(12) includes a second light source(12R) with at least three monochromatic light sources which is combined to display the color. A homogeneous light having six different wavelength bands comes out successively from a plurality of segments.
