The invention relates to a nest box for egg-laying hens, containing one or two longitudinal lines of nests (6), each nest being provided with a lowerable tilting base (8) which is used to support the egg-laying hen or to release the bird and which also closes the access hole to the nest (6). The aforementioned base is inclined such that the eggs (11) roll under gravity towards a conveyor belt (12). The lowerable base (8) includes a counterweight (16) disposed in opposition to the tilting shaft (9) of the base, which counterweight pulls the hoist cable (13) and enables the base (8) to be moved to the vertical position and the nest (6) to be closed. In addition, the base (3) returns under gravity to the open nest position.
