摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmittance-controlling liquid crystal panel and a liquid crystal display device, allowing facilitation of production, allowing suppression of production cost, and allowing increase of an aperture ratio. SOLUTION: The display device has a structure wherein a display device and the transmittance-controlling liquid crystal panel 110 are layered on a backlight so as to increase a contrast ratio. The transmittance-controlling liquid crystal panel 110, which emits light, includes: lattice-like signal lines 115; light receiving elements 111a each having a resistance value varying according to the quantity of light emitted from the display device; and transparent electrodes 116 each connected to the light receiving element 111a. The transmittance-controlling liquid crystal panel 110 is provided with a structure wherein the panel 110 has a high transmittance when the quantity of light is large, and has a small transmittance when the quantity of light is small. Accordingly, it is not necessary for the transmittance-controlling liquid crystal panel 110 to control spatial positional relation to the display device, processing and input of a video signal are not required, synchronization of scanning timing or the like is not required, too, and improvement of the contrast ratio can be achieved with a simple pixel structure.
