PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus capable of accurately detecting abnormality of illumination light emitted by illuminating means without being influenced by entering external light. SOLUTION: The endoscope apparatus 1 includes: the illuminating means 10 for emitting illumination light; photodetecting means 30 disposed so as to detect light quantity of the illumination light; and a control section 40 for switching the illuminating means between an illumination state for emitting the illumination light and a non-illumination state for not emitting the light. The control section 40 detects the light quantity in the illumination state and the non-illumination state by the photodetecting means 30, and monitors a difference in light quantity between the illumination state and the non-illumination state.
