PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric kettle capable of actively improving the quality of liquid to a quality suitable for brewing tea, etc. by adjusting the pH value of the liquid. SOLUTION: The electric kettle includes a container 3 for storing the liquid 2; heating means 6 for heating the liquid in the container 3; temperature detecting means 7 for detecting the temperature of the liquid 2; control means 8 for controlling the heating means 6 according to the temperature detected by the temperature detecting means 7; and pH value increasing means 10 for executing a pH value increasing course for the liquid by heating the liquid by the heating means 6 by a prescribed amount of heating after reaching the boiling point of the liquid. In this way, the pH value of the liquid is increased at least by a prescribed value by heating the liquid with the heating means 6 by the prescribed amount of heating after reaching the boiling point, and releasing a dissolved component such as carbon dioxide, so that the liquid in the container 3 is improved to be suitable for brewing tea, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
