An optical depilation apparatus of high safety is provided, in which the light irradiating the skin can be prevented from leaking to enter the eye while facilitating maintenance, and the light for depilation can be prevented from being irradiated at an unintended time to enter the eye. The apparatus for performing depilation by irradiating the skin with light includes an apparatus body, a light source section provided on the apparatus body for emitting the light with which the skin is irradiated, a light shielding pipe having an axial end face touching the skin on the side opposite to the apparatus body and mounted removably to the apparatus body to surround a part of the apparatus body for irradiating the light emitted from the light source section, and a control circuit for disabling emission of light from the light source section under a state where the light shielding pipe is not mounted to the apparatus body. |
