In a cutting tool assembly of the type having a disposable cutting insert locatable in a recess in a holder, means is provided for securing the insert in the recess which comprises a wire like element having an enlarged end portion which engages the insert to effect a wedging action thereon produced by exerting a pull on the wire element. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the insert 6 has a bore 8 which is locatable over an end portion 14 of a pin 11 positioned in the bore 10 in the holder 1, the wire element being located in an axially extending groove 15 on the periphery of the pin 11 and the enlarged end portion 17 fitting into an enlarged portion 18 of the slot 15. The wedging action between the pin and the insert is effected by exerting a pull on the wire by rotating the screw member 25 in the holder 1 upon which the other end of the wire element is wound and whereby the insert is urged into clamping engagement with the base and walls of the recess. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 of a parting off tool the wedging action of the wire element is effected directly between the insert and the holder 1. The wire element may be formed from steel or nylon and the screw member may be orientated transversely or vertically in relation to the insert. |
