An oil filter in a hydraulic steering circuit comprises a housing whose cover 11 is retained by nut 10 screwed on to bolt 9 and which encloses an annular fitter element 2, whose lower end is located around fixed plate 3 and whose upper end is closed by an assembly 5, 6, 7 incorporating a by-pass valve 6. A compressible annulus 8 urges the tube 7 downwards, holding cap 5 on to element 2 and holding element 2 on to the housing floor. Flow is into the housing through eccentrically placed inlet 17 and outwards through element 2. When element 2 clogs, the pressure difference deforms diaphragm 6 upwards to allow bypassing. When cover 11 is removed, assembly 5, 6, 7 is slid off bolt 9 to enable the element 2 to be replaced. |
