[Also in Division C7] At least two blocks 11, 12 form a die-casting cavity 15 in which at least the casting surface is a tungsten base alloy (at least 50%, e.g. 90-99% tungsten) containing iron and nickel (see Division C7). The blocks may be formed, or may have a coating formed, of the alloy as a sintered powder and heat-treated to increase its ductility. A brass (60 Cu, 40 Zn) is injected at 955‹ C. at a pressure of 18000 p.s.i. into the die maintained at 260‹ C. by a gas heater. After each cast the cavity is cleaned by air containing graphite or oil or other hydrocarbon. The carbonaceous film remaining facilitated release of the brass casting. |
