An optical transmission system which uses set-top box multiplexing and a method thereof are provided to offer multimedia information without disconnection even when there is an error in an active set-top box. An optical transmission system includes: a data providing unit(200) which converts a digital signal inputted from one of plural set-top boxes into an optical signal and transmits the optical signal through an optical communication network; an optical distributor(211) which receives an optical signal from the data providing unit through the optical communication network; and a signal converter(212) which converts the optical signal received from an optical distributor into a digital signal and transmits the converted digital signal to plural display devices. |
