<p>Hard, shock-resistant mouldable polymers, esp. polystyrenes, are produced by polymerising a vinyl-aromatic cpd. in presence of an elastomer, incorporating in the polymerisation mixture (before completion of gel-formation) at least 10% wt., pref. at least 13% wt., of an organic additive of low volatility, preF. compatible with the dispersed phase (elastomer), and contg. less than 13% wt. petroleum jelly or lubricant composed of petroleum jelly and up to 40% wt. mineral oil. Additive is pref. a hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon mixture, esp. a low-MW hydrocarbon polymer e.g. lubricating oil constituent or paraffin-wax fraction), a white oil or petroleum jelly + mineral oil.</p> |
