In a method for setting the storey associations of a plurality of operating units (50-57) of a lift installation (20) a plurality of operating units (50-57) is distributed over a plurality of storeys (11, 13, 15,1 7). These storeys (11, 13, 15, 17) can be travelled to by a lift cage (30) having a transmitter unit (35). In the method, the lift cage (30) is moved to a predetermined storey (11, 13, 15, 17). The operating unit (50-57) allocated to the moved--to storey (11, 13, 15, 17) is activated. The position data describing the store y (11, 13, 15, 17) in which the operating unit (50-57) is located are communicated from the transmitter unit (35) to the operating unit (50-57) and/or to the central control unit (40). The position data are stored in a memory unit (60) of the operating unit (50-57) and/or i n the central control unit (40). (Fig. 1).
