A refrigerator is provided to control the height of a shelf in a refrigerating or freezing compartment easily and freely without separating the shelf from the compartment. A position setting element(16) secures a shelf at a set position. A guide element(15) keeps a connection state between the shelf element and the position setting element. A lifting element(20) has a lifting-induction element for lifting the shelf intermittently in association with the position setting element while keeping the horizontal state of the shelf.
