Process for removing and installing the cap in the central bore of high, intermediate and low pressure rotors in 300 MW units, which is characterised in that: the cap drilling includes a plurality of adjacent and peripheral upper and lower bores having the same size and a uniform outer wall, the drilling having a reduced thickness between the bores and the housing of the cap. The drilling result may reduce the interference between the original cap and the housing thereof. The bores are not crossing the cap; i.e., the cap must have a remaining thickness for avoiding the contact with the rotor body, so that it is important that the first bore is passed through the inner thread of the cap central portion for determining the bore length, since the central portion of the rotor body is hollow. The cap is removed by an extractor, which includes a metallic plate, a central pin and two jacks.
