This invention provides a twin-roll casting machine comprising a pair of cooling rolls (1) for solidifying molten steel and delivering a steel strip (3) through a roll gap (G), a non-contact-type sensor (6) for measuring a thickness distribution in a plate width direction in a steel strip (3), marking means (8) for applying a mark (7) on a steel strip (3) for each rotation of the cooling roll (1), means (9) for detecting the mark (7) applied to the steel strip (3), and roll gap estimation means (10). Based on information (12) on thickness distribution obtained with the non-contact-type sensor (6) and information (13) on mark passage obtained with the mark detection means (9), the roll gap estimation means (10) calculates fluctuation of the roll gap (G) per rotation of the cooling roll (1) based on the fluctuation of the thickness distribution in the plate width direction of the steel strip (3) in a period between the confirmation of passage of the mark (7) and the confirmation of passage of the next mark (7) and stores the results as data. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
