摘要 <p>DISCLOSED HERE IS AN ALIGNMENT STRUCTURE FOR OPTICAL FIBER THAT IS FABRICATED USING SURFACE MICROMACHINING TECHNOLOGY. THE ALIGNMENT STRUCTURE IS SECURED ON A SUBSTRATE WHERE THE ALIGNMENT STRUCTURE IS DISCLOSED TO COMPRISE OF A V-SHAPED ALIGNMENT MICROSTRUCTURE (1). THE V-GROOVE ALIGNMENT MICROSTRUCTURE IS FORMED FROM A COMBINATION OF AT LEAST FOUR PLATES (2a,2b,2c,2d) THAT ARE SECURED SPACED APART ON THE SUBSTRATE (NOT SHOWN), EACH OF THE PLATES BEING HINGED TO BE ROTATABLE ON THE SUBSTRATE AND PROVIDED WITH A LATCHING MECHANISM (3). THE PLATES WHEN RAISED FROM THE SUBSTRATE INTERACT WITH THE CORRESPONDING ADJACENT PLATES THUS BECOME INTERLOCKED AT THE LATCHING MECHANISM THUS FORMING SUCH DESIRED V-GROOVE ALIGNMENT MICRSTRUCTURE (1). THE PLATES ARE PREFERABLY MADE OF POLYSILICON BUT NOT LIMITED TO SUCH.</p>
