The apparatus has a gas burner supplied with gas by a supply valve. The valve is connected to a gas cylinder by a flexible pipe. The valve has an electronic type control unit e.g. microcontroller, for evaluating gas level in the cylinder by calculating gas consumption for each usage of the burner. A display unit e.g. LCD, indicates the gas level information in the cylinder, where the information is transmitted to a user using a sound signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a gas quantity contained in the gas cylinder connected to the gas cooking apparatus.
