PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a person by simple processing. SOLUTION: Both legs of a truncated chevron shape are detected as a feature of a leg appearing when a person is walking. A pattern image of the truncated chevron shape showing both the legs in truncated chavron shape is previously generated by learning, and similarity to the pattern image is calculated while scanning the inside of a captured image to detect an area whose similarity is equal to or larger than a threshold and the highest as an area showing both the legs in truncated chevron shape. Based upon the area showing both the legs, an area showing the whole body including both the legs is specified to detect the person. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
