PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide apparatus for detecting use of earphone, etc. for surely determining whether the earphone is in use or not as much as possible. SOLUTION: The detector is provided with: a temperature measurement element 22 fixed to an earphone 14 connected to portable acoustic equipment 10 or accessories of the earphone 14; a monitoring means 60 for monitoring output of the temperature measurement element 22; and a power control means 64 for shifting from an ON mode for supplying power to a main circuit of the portable acoustic equipment 10 to an OFF mode for cutting off the power to be supplied to the main circuit after a predetermined standby time elapses when detecting a transition pattern in which a temperature measurement value detected by the monitoring means 60 is changed from within a predetermined temperature area to the outside of the predetermined temperature area.
