PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately controlling heaters in the image forming apparatus provided with one heater arranged relatively apart from the position of temperature detection and the heater other arranged relatively close to the heater. SOLUTION: A heating roller 21 stores a long heater 24 and a short heater 25. The long heater 24 is a heating means lighted when images are printed on wider paper than prescribed paper passing width. The short heater 25 is a heating means lighted when the images are printed on paper of the prescribed paper passing width or less. A heating thermostat 40 is arranged on the upper part of the heating roller 21, detects the temperature of a fixing belt 23 wound around the heating roller 21, and interrupts the supply of power to the long heater 24 or the short heater 25 when detected temperature exceeds a prescribed temperature. A protection circuit prevents the short heater 25 from lighting while the heating roller 21 is not rotated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
