PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite fiber composed of a wholly aromatic polyamide and a high-purity multilayer carbon nanotube and having excellent mechanical properties. SOLUTION: The composite fiber is composed of 100 pts.wt. of a wholly aromatic polyamide composed mainly of constituent units of formula (A): -NH-Ar<SP>1</SP>-NH- and formula (B): -OC-Ar<SP>2</SP>-CO-, and 0.01-20 pts.wt. of multilayer carbon nanotubes prepared by an arc discharge method and having an average tube diameter of 3-30 nm, an average number of layers of 2-10, an average tube length of 200 nm to 10μm, and total content of amorphous carbon and metal of≤1 wt.%, wherein the multilayer carbon nanotubes are dispersed in the wholly aromatic polyamide and has an aggregation diameter of≤100 nm.
