A voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is arranged in a chip area (2) while a heat source is arranged in a different chip area (3) of the semiconductor chip (1). The heat source is particularly in the form of a line amplifier or a phase locked loop (PLL). Contacts (4a,4b) are formed on the semiconductor chip through a bonding procedure. The contacts between the chip areas are arranged to function as a thermal screen between the chip areas.
