<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film comprising a coating film which has a large retardation in the thickness direction of the film by coating and has less wavelength dependency of the retardation. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensation film comprises the coating film made of a maleimide resin, and is characterized in that when any two axes perpendicularly crossing within the plane of the coating film are x-axis and y-axis, respectively, an out-of-plane direction is z-axis, and the refractive indices in the x-axis direction, y-axis direction and z-axis direction are nx, ny and nz, respectively, then the three-dimensional refractive indices satisfy the relationship nx≈ny>nz. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
