PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overcoat layer producing apparatus which can accurately transfer a pattern etc. preformed on an overcoat ribbon, to a predetermined location of a transfer medium. SOLUTION: The overcoat layer producing apparatus comprises: a calculating means for obtaining a rotational angle speedω<SB>Mn</SB>of a ribbon winding shaft from a relationship with respect to a ribbon winding shaft outer diameter d<SB>2</SB>calculated by setting a rotational speed of a heat roller of a thermo-compression bonding means to a reference speed Vh, by the expression ofω<SB>Mn</SB>= 2Vh/d<SB>2</SB>; an overcoat ribbon driving means for driving the ribbon winding shaft for rotation; and a control means for controlling the overcoat ribbon driving means such that the rotational angle speed of the ribbon winding shaft is set to the rotational angle speedω<SB>Mn</SB>calculated by the calculating means, and transferring the pattern etc. such that a carrying speed of the overcoat ribbon of the thermo-compression bonding means is equal to the reference speed.
