A plate cylinder (410) includes a cylinder including a longitudinal axis (432) and a centroid located at a geometric center (412) of the cylinder. The cylinder (410) also includes a slot (415) for receiving both ends of a printing plate; the cylinder (410) including a counter balance hole (420) extending axially in the cylinder and being displaced from the longitudinal axis (432), the counter balance hole (420) balancing the slot (415); and the cylinder (410) including a mass balance hole (425) extending axially in the cylinder and being displaced from the longitudinal axis (432), the mass balance hole (425) balancing the plate cylinder. The cylinder (410) further including at least one hole (440) extending axially in the cylinder and being displaced from the longitudinal axis (432) of the cylinder to reduce the variation in products of inertia as the plate cylinder rotates. A cylinder is also provided. A method is also provided.
