<p>Ammonia-soda process using carbonate brine to which an organic solvent miscible with water is added. The brine is used alone or mixed with water for washing the filter cake. A concentrated, pre-carbonated brine soln. was fed in continuously at the heat of a carbonation tower simultaneously mixing with 20 wt.% methanol. The bicarbonate suspension drawn off from the bottom was vac. filtered, the filter cake washed with methanol/water to minimize NaHCO3 loss in the washings, and residual water lowered to 10%. The yield was 85% on NaCl input.</p> |
