FORMING MULTI-WALLED COMPONENTS

A method of forming a component having a plurality of walls comprises placing a blank opposite a forming surface of a die. The blank comprises an outer wall and an inner wall in mutual contact between an inner side of the outer wall and an outer side of the inner wall. Fluid pressure is applied to the inner side of the outer wall to separate the outer wall from the inner wall and to form the outer wall against the forming surface while applying substantially equal fluid pressure to inner and outer sides of the inner wall, thus defining a gap between the inner and outer walls. Fluid pressure is applied to the outer wall through an aperture defined by an overlap portion of the outer wall extending outwardly beyond an edge of the inner wall to an edge of the outer wall.
