A fan motor control device includes: an inverter unit (2) for driving a fan motor (4); two position sensors (43, 44) for detecting a rotation position of a rotor (42) of the fan motor (4); and a control unit (3) for controlling output of the inverter unit (2). The control unit (3) has a start control unit (33a). Upon start of the fan motor (4), when the current rpm obtained from position signals Hu, Hv detected by the position sensors (43, 44) substantially coincide with the rpm of output of the inverter unit (2), the start control unit (33a) terminates a synchronization operation for outputting a start exciting pattern from the inverter unit (2) and performs a position detection operation based on the position signals Hu, Hv detected by the position sensors (43, 44). The control unit (3) also has a phase correction unit (33b) which corrects a phase of an output voltage of the inverter unit (2) according to the rise and the fall of the position signals Hu, Hv detected by the position sensors (43, 44) during the synchronization operation.
