PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device capable of appropriately suppressing an external disturbance component included in the output signal of a rotational vibration detector without depending on its frequency, and its control method. SOLUTION: In the control method, a magnetic disk device 1 provided with a rotational vibration detector 30 for detecting the rotational vibration of a device casing is made an object. In the method, a main control circuit 10 is made to perform a head moving step of driving a voice coil motor to move a magnetic head on a magnetic disk, a frequency estimating step of estimating the frequency of the external disturbance component included in the output signal of the rotational vibration detector 30 after the movement of the magnetic head, and the suppressing unit setting step of setting a notch filter for suppressing the external disturbance component on the basis of the estimated frequency.
