<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine with high durability, which is improved in heat insulating properties of an inside of a combustion chamber, and also to provide a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the piston 10 for the internal combustion engine, minute cylindrical bodies 3, 3, ... having a hollow portion (an air layer A) embedded in a top face portion 1 formed in a side of the combustion chamber in such a posture as to have one end face facing a combustion chamber side surface of the top face portion 1.
